Last updated: October 3, 2026 (applies to Commentary Off version 1.0.0)
Commentary Off is a Chrome extension that turns down the TV commentary in the sound of a browser tab. It does all of its work on your computer. It has no servers, makes no network requests, and contains no analytics, advertising or tracking. The developer receives no information about you or how you use it.
When you click the Commentary Off icon and switch it ON, Chrome gives the extension the sound of that tab. The extension processes this sound in memory on your computer, using a speech-separation model that is included in the extension, and plays the result back to you. The audio is not recorded, not saved and not sent anywhere. Processing stops when you switch it OFF, close the tab, or Chrome ends the capture. The extension does not use your microphone or camera.
This information stays inside the extension on your computer. It is kept in Chrome's temporary extension storage, which is held in memory and cleared when you quit Chrome. The details for a tab are also removed when you close that tab. None of it is sent anywhere.
In normal use, Commentary Off saves nothing permanently. If you open the hidden developer diagnostics panel, the popup remembers a single on/off setting for that panel on your computer. Uninstalling the extension removes everything it stored.
Commentary Off does not sell, share or transfer any information to anyone, because no information leaves your computer.
